With over a dozen fringe players on loan, United begin their defence of the League Cup – is that what it’s called now? – with a formidable squad for the game versus Crewe.

Kuszczak, Heaton, Lee, Shawcross, Brown, Silvestre, Heinze, Gray, Solskjaer, Marsh, D Jones, R Jones, O’Shea, Fletcher, Richardson, Smith, Burns.
The bright side of the Glazer take-over new regime is as follows.
- It forced the Club to take the League Cup seriously.
- It highlighted the number of
deadwoodfringe players that only occupied space but never stood a chance of breaking into the first team.
From what I’ve seen on MUTV and their coverage of the Reserves and Academy, two to look out for are David Jones and Ritchie Jones. Nevermind another piece of silverware at the end of the season; here’s hoping for signs that they can make the breakthrough.
