Berbatov’s Cloak of Invisibility

That cloak of invisibility is a double-edged sword.

I wish Berba had bothered to turn up on Saturday.

smoking!

smoking!

As if it’s not tough enough to play for 90 minutes with 10 men, United proceeded to exhibit some shocking wastefulness in front of goal. To cap it off, instead of bringing Tevez on for the Invisible Man, Sir Alex takes off Rooney.

Huh?

  • but he has been alot mobile. hes swapping position with other players, defends corner, chases ball. but yes, hes a lazy bugger

  • True, true. He does contribute in the ways you highlight, I accept that, and he has been more mobile than what I initially gave him credit. But we had that same mobility and fluency of movement last season with Tevez, Rooney, Ronaldo and Saha (when fit). I don’t think Berbatov adds to the team in this regard. The most pressing area where Berbatov was expected to add to the team is in terms of goals – and here we haven’t seen the best of returns for that 30 million investment, “cloak of invisibility” notwithstanding. In fact, I’d be more than happy to keep quiet if Berba simply got into scoring positions!

  • lol, i would be happy too. it was frustrating to see him in his debut, i remember seeing a stat on that match where the average player covered a certain number of meters while berbatov covered a quarter of the amount. he is getting better in that part of his game, and im sure he’ll score more goals but the 30m price tag was over the top.

  • Yah :-)

A quarter? That is seriously, seriously funny.

This is what I’m going to do for this afternoon’s game: count how many times our Berba gets into goal-scoring positions, how many chances he gets. And then we’ll compare it to Rooney’s (assuming he plays).
